1st Annual Fall Fishing Tournament

On November 2nd there will be a fishing tournament to benefit Standing Watch.
This tournament is designed to be angler and family friendly. The format will be: 1st prize for the overall combined length of one red and one mangrove snapper (2nd and 3rd place prizes awarded); Prize for the longest snook; Prize for the red with the most spots. There will be several prizes awarded in novelty categories and a kids tournament as well.
The tournament will take place at Viking Marina Inc. in Matlacha. Viking Marina is located east of the bridge and just west of The Matlacha Oyster House on Pine Island Rd. By water on the north side of the Matlacha Bridge head east up the canal, can't miss it. There is a boat ramp at the marina and a well-stocked bait and tackle shop. Seven Seas Bait and Tackle is located conveniently close by with lots of dockage and is also very well stocked.
Captains' meeting will be Friday, Nov. 1st at 7:00 PM at The Double Nichol Pub in downtown St. James City. One person from each entry is required to attend. Every Friday night is Steak Night at the Double Nichol with live music as well. Bring the family!
The prizes will consist of cash awards as well as donated goods and services including fishing gear, gift certificates from restaurants and other assorted useful stuff. There will be lots of items to be raffled off and a silent auction.
There will be a hog roast provided by Jamie from the Double Nichol Pub in St. James City (site of the spring tournament) and Phil Christ. Larry from Fishin’ Fever Marina is providing smoked fish and side dishes, Randy Johnson will be serving shrimp and John Falcone will have Pine Island farm-raised clams. The participating anglers will be provided food as a part of the entry fee package. Food will be available for everyone else at a low price.
The traditional Standing Watch "endangered species" t-shirts will be available as well as tournament t-shirts designed by John Bredin of Artwave Images.com in St. James City. The tournament t-shirts will be sold at cost to all registered participating anglers and will be available to others for $15.00.
Bonita Furniture and Patio has donated 4 different Limited Edition, signed and numbered prints by Fred W. Thomas. These beautiful prints are solid oak framed (3ftx27in) and will be on display one at a time in the SouthTrust Bank and the SunTrust Bank at Pine Island Center and the Viking Marina Bait Shop in Matlacha. These prints will be raffled off at the tournament and you can buy tickets at the three locations where the prints are displayed. Thanks to Pat Geist at Bonita Furniture & Patio! We also will have a number of other prints to raffle off.
